The East Godavari District is located in the North Coastal part of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The District boundaries are Visakhapatnam, West Godavari, Khammam Districts and Bay of Bengal.The District is known as rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh with lush paddy fields and coconut groves. East Godavari, it is the Rice Granary of Andhra Pradesh, beckons tourists to have a glimpse of its rich cultural heritage,where the lush paddy fields swaying in the breeze appear to dance in a celebration to life. The District is a residuary portion of the old Godavari District after West Godavari District was separated in 1925. As the name of the district conveys, East Godavari District is closely associated with the river Godavari, occupying a major portion of the delta area.

East Godavari district is having the area of 12,805 Sq Kms with 7 Revenue divisions, 64 Revenue mandals and 1069 Grama panchayats with a population of 52.86 lacs as per 2011 provisional census figures

Kakinada does not have an airport of its own and the nearest airport is Rajahmundry Airport. East Godavari is having Airport as Madhurapudi near Rajahmundry which is 65 kms’s from District headquarters Kakinada and 15 Kms from Rajahmundry.Visakhapatnam Airport around 163 km away from Kakinada city, Flights from places like Hyderabad, pune, Nagpur, Mumbai and Bangalore can be availed to reach the destination.

Bhimesvara Temple:

Located in the region of East Godavari, Bhimesvara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Samalkota, 28 Kms from Kakinada city. This holy destination is rectangular in shape and there are several writings in the temple that shows that the village was earlier called as Chalukya Bhimavaram.

Shri Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple

shri Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple is located in Sarpavaram, near Kakinada. It is devoted to God Bhavanarayana, the second name for Lord Vishnu. It is irrefutably a very famous place to visit

Adurru

A historical place in East Godavari known for its monuments, Adurru Village is located in Razole Taluk. The ruins of Buddhist Stupas, Chaityas and Viharas were discovered by The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the year of 1953. The excavation performed by ASI revealed ancient materials such as dishes, jars, bowl of kaolin and red pottery and troughs. Mahastupa is the major attraction of the place.

Coringa Sanctuary

Coringa Sanctuary is an amazing scenic place to visit and is situated in East Godavari which is close to Kakinada city and is widespread over an area of 235 square Kms. Rich flora and fauna can be experienced in the Coringa Sanctuary. There are around 35 varieties of Mangrove plants which are present at this place. It is very famous for Olive Ridley Sea Turtle, Estuarine Crocodiles and Fishing Cats

Pithapuram

Pithapuram, a famous religious place in East Godavari is situated at a distance of just 20 Kms from Kakinada. It is also known as one of the five Madava Keshatras, one of the twelve pilgrim centers and one of the Asta Data Shakti Peethas. It is believed as one the ancient pilgrim centers in India. The chief attraction of the place is the old shrine of Padagya Kshethram. The Kunthimadhava Swami, Sri Kukkuteshwara Swami Temple, Sri Pada Vallabha Anaagha Datha Kshethram and Sri Venu Gopala Swamy Temple are other renowned temples in the city.
